Former World No. 1 player, Roger Federer has not played a competitive tennis match for over a year. His semifinal loss against Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open 2020 was his last match on Tour. The Swiss superstar had to undergo two knee surgeries during this period.
Recently his agent, Tony Godsick, gave an update regarding the tournaments Federer would be seen at in the present year. Godsick did reveal that Roger will not be playing at the Miami Open and will take a ‘training break’. The Swiss master is the defending champion as the event was canceled last year and not being a part of it will result in him losing 1000 points.

After confirming his participation at the ATP Doha Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships, it would be strenuous for the 39-year-old player to compete in Miami soon after. Federer is making a comeback after a long duration, and it would be wise to not overexert himself after a lengthy period.
If Roger plays both events, in Doha and then in the following week in Dubai, it could hamper his progress for the remainder of the season. The Swiss tennis player wishes to play the clay-court tournaments, something he has not done consistently in recent years.
