Alexis Vega, a Mexican experienced campaigner, received an offer from MLS club San Jose Earthquakes. The 26-year-old, however, rejected the offer. The Mexican winger is only interested in linking up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami or Los Angeles FC in the MLS, as per sports commentator Carlos Yustis.

If the Mexican star were to hop the border and join the MLS, what would he exactly bring to the table? Since joining Guadalajara in December 2018, Vega has played 147 games. His numbers are fairly decent having scored 28 goals and providing an equal number of assists. While not being the deadliest goal scorer, he has great vision and is a great playmaker from wide. Unfortunately, Vega was also in the news some time ago, but not for reasons related to soccer.

Off-field issues have contributed to his role being diminished. The forward missed 5 matches in 2023 because of a disciplinary breach that reportedly involved sneaking women into the hotel where the team resided. He returned in December, but all 3 of his appearances were from the bench. The new manager, Fernando Gago doesn’t seem to be a big fan of the attacker.

Hence, there have been lots of rumors and speculation regarding his future with clubs like Toluca, his former side said to be interested. But his latest comments indicate that he will probably see out his contract, which ends in June 2024.

With just 1 goal in 10 games this season, Alexis Vega is unlikely to be a hot property in the transfer market regardless of his immense talent. Despite his big desire to join David Beckham‘s side, it could be Lionel Messi himself who is likely to be the biggest obstacle for the Mexican International.

Alexis Vega is a versatile attacker who plays either as a center forward, an attacking midfielder, or sometimes on the flanks. However, his problem is that Inter Miami already has two more than capable players for those positions. Interestingly, they are the most high-profile players in the entire squad- Luis Suarez & the Argentine World Cup winner himself.

Suarez’s signing was announced recently in December. Lionel Messi, on the other hand, was voted the Inter Miami MVP despite playing only half the season. Hence, even if Alexis Vega was somehow able to secure a move and join the Herons, it appears unlikely that he would see much first-team action.
