Clinching his record 8th Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi stood undefeated in this year’s cut-throat race. With strong competition all around, his World Cup win trumped Erling Haaland‘s treble-winning season for Manchester City. What’s more spectacular is that with this win, the detailed voting list reveals that Messi with 4,036 points has now overtaken his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the Ballon d’Or’s points record.

The list further clarifies that Lionel Messi was the favorite to win the world’s best title this season. His accumulated points place him way above Erling Haaland and even 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, Luka Modric.
