But now, the detailed voting points list has just surfaced on the internet, and it’s quite evident that Messi was the favorite to win the prestigious award. How many votes did he earn?

The 2023 Ballon d’Or race ended with the Argentine being crowned with his record 8th Ballon d’Or title. However, this Ballon d’Or will be the last one hosted solely by the France Football Association. A new plan is in order which will see both the soccer governing entities (France Football Association and UEFA), join hands to co-host the award function that will change the dynamics of the prestigious award.

Lionel Messi’s 462 points were enough to clinch the title. Erling Haaland, the second favorite to lift his first-ever Ballon d’Or, raked in 357 points, falling 105 short of Messi’s magic. Meanwhile, third in the race, Kylian Mbappe received 270 while De Bruyne gathered 100 points to secure the fourth position. There are a few other notable names below who raked in a small amount of votes.
