It hasn’t been the promising start Al Hilal had hoped for with the arrival of Neymar Jr. The highly anticipated signing has yet to meet expectations on the field. But rather than the player himself, it’s now the Al Hilal boss who finds himself in the crosshairs as contract termination looms following a disappointing Champions League campaign.

Splurging such an amount of money suggests Al Hilal isn’t here to joke around. If the expectations are not met, they might be even forced to make some bold decisions.

On Monday, Al Hilal kicked off their first match of Group D in the AFC Champions League against Uzbekistan’s Navbahor. The match also saw Neymar making his first start. However, it wasn’t the result Al Hilal expected it to be, as they played a 1-1 draw. Throughout the match, Neymar appeared to struggle against the opponents.

Notably, this has led to an increase in frustration among the bosses of the Al Hilal. In fact, they have reportedly warned the team’s coach Jorge Jesus about the consequences of the poor performances. This comes from the mouth of a renowned journalist Rudy Galetti, who insists the club’s management had a meeting with Jesus’ agents. There, the manager was informed that the Riyadh side may terminate his contract in advance if the results aren’t improved soon.

Indeed, it is quite an eyebrow-raising news. Despite leading the Roshn Saudi League table, Jesus may face the axe. Additionally, things would have been different if Al Hilal had lost the match. Luckily, they were saved by an injury-time goal. But coming back, it appears that Jesus has received a warning from the Saudi bosses.

Perhaps he will be looking to improve the scores in the next fixtures. Meanwhile, as of Neymar’s Champions League debut, the latter claimed a rare feat in the tournament.

Neymar achieved a rare feat in the AFC Champions League

While Neymar may not have contributed any goals during his highly anticipated debut for Al Hilal in front of his home fans, the 31-year-old has achieved a notable feat. In his debut, the Brazilian created the highest number of opportunities among all Saudi players in the Champions League group stage opener, totaling five chances.

In fact, with this feat, the former PSG man has managed to outshine Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo. Indeed, it shows that the playmaker is trying to give his all for Al Hilal. Perhaps the no. 10 is already challenging the CR7 to take center stage.
