It’s been a year of more lows than highs for Neymar Jr. Earlier in September Neymar broke Brazilian legend Pele’s goal-scoring record for Brazil becoming the country’s highest goal scorer, while also scoring his debut goal for Al Hilal soon after. However, this week Neymar was stretchered off after getting injured in Brazil’s shock 2-0 loss to Uruguay. But since his injury is long-term, his club Al Hilal is set to get compensated $8 million from FIFA according to a certain clause. This has led Napoli’s president to hit out at FIFA.

Neymar’s injury was reported to be a meniscus and ACL tear after he was stretchered off before halftime as Brazil lost 2-0 to Uruguay. But shortly following the news of the clause between FIFA and Al Hilal after Neymar’s injury, Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis suggested that FIFA should compensate his club per day” should a player of his get injured.

Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis is known to be a tough negotiator when it comes to transfers and for his controversial comments in the media from time to time. Recently, he has been at it again shortly after news that Al Hilal would receive $8 million from FIFA after Neymar got injured on international duty with Brazil.

As reported by this tweet on X, by the handle FootballTalkHQ, De Laurentiis said, “If I paid €50 million for a player and I get him back injured, they should compensate the club for the cost per day of the entire period he will be out. Think of Neymar.”

These latest comments from the Napoli owner follow several jibes he aimed at Saudi club Al Hilal. Earlier this summer, De Laurentiis, hit out at Al Hilal for their interest in Napoli’s prized asset and star striker Victor Osimhen. This was despite the Saudi club reportedly breaking the bank in a $215 million offer to try and sign Osimhen.

According to an earlier report, De Laurentiis sent a scathing email to Al Hilal after the Saudi club offered $215 million for Napoli’s top scorer Victor Osimhen. As per the report, De Laurentiis stated,Your $215 million offer can buy only one foot of Osimhen”. The Napoli owner further added, “For next year I think you’ll be able to offer $500 million and we’ll probably consider your offer, but I repeat: maybe.”

Osimhen was instrumental in Napoli’s success last season as the Nigerian striker scored 26 goals in the Serie A  leading the Naples club to a Scudetto triumph after a 33-year wait. Interest from Saudi clubs has certainly caused a stir in Europe, but with owners such as Napoli’s De Laurentiis, perhaps the money the Saudi Pro League clubs will have to shell out for the best players from Europe’s top clubs will perhaps skyrocket even more next summer.

Meanwhile, for Al Hilal, it looks like the Saudi Pro League leaders will have to do without their star forward Neymar for what remains of the current season.
