While the final result of yesterday’s match garnered a lot of criticism toward Lionel Scaloni, Marcelo Bielsa was getting praised. In fact, his approach to this crucial match was analyzed on the sets of ESPN. Reacting to the match, Alejandro Moreno claimed that the game plan by Bielsa was outstanding.

He said, “People focus on Lionel Messi rightfully so when you consider Argentina. He [Bielsa] didn’t pay so much attention to Messi, he paid attention to the midfield of Argentina and how do we go about pressing that midfield so that we could out the service to Messi”. Moreno then heaped praise on the Uruguayan midfield consisting of Manuel Ugarte, Federico Valverde, and Nicolás de la Cruz.

The pundit insisted that the trio was able to put enough pressure on the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Rodrigo De Paul, to the extent that Argentina couldn’t play from the back. “They were pressing and getting numbers around the ball, forcing turnovers in bad areas and now that first pass, it wasn’t going sideways; it wasn’t going back; it was going forward,” he added.

Moreno further added that the best opportunities were crafted by Uruguay, as they outstandingly pressured the midfield and prohibited Messi’s service. Indeed, this is quite an insightful analysis from the pundit. Meanwhile, aside from the loss, Messi and Co. were in the limelight for yesterday’s ugly brawl.
