There has been an unsaid rivalry between the two top talents in soccer, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. One has pushed the other to achieve greatness and challenged the other to reach greater heights. The rivalry and the competition have been beneficial for both soccer stars. Debates ended as soon as Lionel Messi clinched the World Cup in Qatar. Winning the Ballon d’Or last night was just a tick of approval from the soccer community. When asked Messi about his thoughts on the rivalry with the Portuguese superstar in general, the Argentinean had a pleasing answer in store.

For starters, Lionel Messi is a humble man. Even after winning the Ballon d’Or, he remained grounded as he spoke a few words about Haaland. The Norwegian has been a worthy competitor to the little magician this season, and Messi solidified those claims. Therefore, he gave that respect to Ronaldo, as well.

What the soccer fans witnessed last night will be one pinnacle of soccer history and heritage. It’s been a long journey where the duo has produced countless memories to cheer. Yet, the king of Argentina won his 8th Ballon d’Or as Lionel Messi addressed the question about his long-time rival and compatriot, Ronaldo.

The superstar mentioned, “What we have done all this time is very appreciable because as they say it is easy to reach the top but difficult to stay. We stayed at the top for ten or fifteen years, I’m not sure how many, and it was very difficult. It was very difficult to continue at this level and I think it was a great thing and a beautiful memory for everyone who enjoys football.”

Messi further added, “It was an epic competition between brackets. Athletically, he was very good and I think we benefited from each other because we are both very competitive and he also always wants to win over everyone and everything. I think it was a very beautiful period for us and for those who love football in general.”

As Messi gracefully exits the pitch, he has passed the torch on to Erling Haaland. The Argentinean’s words for the Norwegian build hope for a stable future for the soccer realm.
