Manchester United is in a state of constant ebb and flow. To what may seem cyclical to many, the team’s short fixes and deep-rooted lapses have continued to confound fans and pundits alike. With the Red Devils struggling yet again this season, a Scottish pundit argues that Harry Kane is lucky to have missed out on a move to Old Trafford.

Kane finally bid adieu to Tottenham Hotspur in search of silverware and moved to Bayern Munich at the end of last season. While many expected the 30-year-old to land in Manchester, the expert feels that the English striker eventually made the right decision in moving to the Bundesliga.

The Red Devils are placed 6th in the Premier League table and are just 3 more points ahead of 9th-placed West Ham United. But their situation is much bleaker than that. They have already lost 11 games, having broken a 50-year-old record for the number of games lost at this point in the season. Additionally, their wins have also been far from convincing, with only a stand-alone unicorn performance coming in a 2-1 win against Chelsea.

Subsequently, Chris Burley, who earlier advocated for them to buy Harry Kane, said, “They went and they spent the money; in all these different areas that we can, I think we know they didn’t really need them to be fair, and so Harry Kane has dodged a bullet there.”

Harry Kane has settled instantly in Munich. After his $100 million move to Bayern, the striker has scored 22 goals in just 20 games. And due to his unavailability, United opted to go for Rasmus Hojlund, who cost them $90 million. The Danish player, however, hasn’t opened his Premier League account yet. In hindsight, Kane could have potentially made a huge difference.

In the meantime, quite a few recent signings seem to have not been comfortable at the club. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure and a brief but short-lived uptick, things took a downturn in terms of manager-player relationships. Starting with Jadon Sancho’s rift, it was rumored that Raphael Varane was also in a cold relationship with the coach, which ten Hag publically denied.

After a comfortable game at Old Trafford, Bayern Munich has qualified for the Round of 16 of the Champions League after topping Group A with 5 wins and 1 draw. Manchester United, meanwhile, finished bottom of their group, with one win, a draw, and 4 losses, in what was one of their worst campaigns in the tournament. The manager, however, refrained from throwing his team under the bus. He said, “The players gave everything, we saw the spirit.”

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
