And now, he follows a similar blueprint with Inter Miami. After they won the Leagues Cup, Messi handed the captain’s armband to DeAndre Yedlin, showcasing his humble, selfless personality. 

Even though he is the chief man, he quickly marked out the group’s leaders, and Yedlin picked up the captain’s band with his performances. There is a genuine camaraderie amongst the Inter Miami soccer players, and the club goalkeeper Drake Callender spoke highly of Messi’s influence on the group.

After the sensational Leagues Cup victory over Nashville SC, Messi handed the captain’s armband to Yedlin at the end of the game. Hence, it became a moment to cherish for the right back who first refused to take it. But these slight gestures help the team to bond, and Callender spoke of Messi’s impact on the team. According to Favian Renkel on X, he stated, “I think Messi recognizes what this team has been through even prior to him coming here.”

He continued, “He’s known that there’s been leadership, there’s been different leaders who have stepped up and Deandre has definitely served as one of our leaders this season, so for him to recognize that is huge. It shows that he is humble, he respects everyone on the team, so for him to do that, you know, goes to show you know how good of a teammate he is.” It became a moment to remember for David Beckham and his team lifting the coveted trophy.
