Humiliated After Al Nassr’s Loss, Cristiano Ronaldo Gifts Riyadh Season Cup Silver Medal to Young Al Hilal Fan

The much-anticipated return of Cristiano Ronaldo from injury went up in smoke. After weeks of absence, the Portuguese superstar was greeted with a 2-0 loss against Al Hilal in the Riyadh Season Cup last night. While he couldn’t clinch the silverware with his teammates, the least he got was a runner-up’s medal. The loss had such a profound effect on CR7 that it prompted him to gift the medal to a young rival fan. 

First-half goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Salem Al Dawsari were enough to seal the victory for Jorge Jesus’ side. As the match ended, while Al Hilal popped champagne and lifted the trophy, Al Nassr players collected their silver medals with their heads down in dismay. The second-place award for the Riyadh Season Cup wasn’t something that the 39-year-old planned to win. This must have led the striker to gift his only award of the night to a teenage boy in the stands who was supporting Al Hilal. 

Evidently, the skipper wasn’t satisfied with the display he and his teammates put in. Even though he played the full 90+10 minutes, the veteran took 7 shots throughout the match but only managed to keep one on target. Additionally, he missed two significant opportunities, including an open goal chance. In another instance, Ronaldo displayed obvious frustration as he walked up the pitch to accept the runner-up award after quickly changing into a training kit before the final presentation.

These actions suggest that his frustration might have prompted him to gift the award to a rival fan. However, considering it a heartwarming gesture, it’s the least he could do, especially after his previous actions with Al Hilal’s shirt!

Following the game, several Al Hilal supporters started yelling Cristiano Ronaldo’s name and hurling a jersey and scarf at him as he was being escorted into the tunnel by the players and staff of his team. Visibly frustrated from the loss, the team captain stopped to pick up one of the shirts and rubbed it against his crotch before tossing it into the air. This surprise and unexpected gesture was filmed by a stadium supporter and rapidly went viral on the internet.
