Cristiano Ronaldo is a name that is synonymous with the record books of soccer. Throughout his life, the Portuguese superstar always maintained a relentless drive to break countless records and cement his legacy in the sport. But his current situation at Al Nassr seems to have changed his drive, as he recently revealed snubbing his pursuit of milestones and rather enjoying his time with his domestic club.

In a remarkable shift, CR7 was once even challenged to score an outrageous 1,000 goals. But from chasing the unattainable to now savoring the present, what has changed?

Hours ago, Cristiano Ronaldo powered his side to an emphatic 4-3 win against Al Duhail in the AFC Champions League. His two outrageous strikes, alongside goals from Sadio Mane and Anderson Talisca, were enough to secure three points. Interestingly, after the match, Ronaldo sat down for a post-match press conference alongside his coach, Luis Castro.

When asked about his last night’s performance and his ambition to continue chasing records, the striker said, “Actually, I don’t care about records. I enjoy my time with Al Nassr, and we are working to be the strongest and best team.” Without a doubt, it seems to be quite a surprising shift in mindset, as the skipper insists he no longer cares about records and is solely focused on the success and vision of his club as a whole.

Indeed, it is unexpected to hear such sentiments from the very man who, throughout his life, has pursued records and glory. Perhaps with advancing age, Ronaldo is reevaluating his drive. Be that as it may, this might not sit well with some fans, especially considering that Ronaldo has been challenged to score 1,000 goals before he hangs up his boots. What was that all about?

CR7 was challenged to score 1,000 goals

Throughout his career, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored over 860 goals for both club and country. Recently, the skipper sat down for a post-match interview after leading Portugal to victory against Slovakia with a brace. When asked about his scoring feat, he said, “1,000 goals in my career? Bento da Costa, the President of FC Porto, challenged me with this, but first, I want to reach 900 goals.”

Once again, Ronaldo claims he isn’t thinking about the historic 1,000 mark. Instead, the Al Nassr man is looking to reach 900 first. Certainly, with a few more years to play, CR7 can easily achieve his goal. But the challenge from the FC Porto president is something that not just the soccer world but even Ronaldo himself isn’t currently focused on. Can he reach the 1,000 mark before calling it quits? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
