In a display of soccer mastery that lasted for seven years, fans were treated to the striking partnership between Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane at Real Madrid. Their remarkable teamwork contributed significantly to securing 4 UCL titles. Interestingly, the initial interaction between these two renowned athletes was not quite typical. It involved the Manchester United defender asserting his identity and correcting CR7, who initially referred to him only by his surname ‘Varane’.

This memorable encounter arose in 2011 when the French defender transferred to Santiago Bernabeu during the summer of that year. At that time, Ronaldo had already established himself as the biggest star at Los Blancos, having spent two seasons with the club. Undeterred by this notable presence, Varane stepped confidently into this new environment, determined to carve out his own place.

Recently, Raphael Varane sat down for an interview with Canal+. During the talk, the 30-year-old was pressed for confirmation on an alleged encounter he had with Cristiano Ronaldo, where he succinctly responded ‘I’m Rapha,’ upon being called ‘Varane.’ “Yes it’s true,” affirmed the Frenchman. He further elaborated, stating, “I think that on the field there is no need to be shy.”

Varane believed in earning respect and stated, “I am someone who is quite reserved outside, but on the field, you have to make your own place and be respected.” This sound statement seems to have set the foundation for their partnership. Throughout their time at Real Madrid, the duo shared the pitch 231 times and experienced the peak of their careers.

That said, this is not expected to be the conclusion of such potential proceedings. As per further reports, Al Nassr retains an interest in welcoming the ex-Real Madrid star onto their team. They are particularly hopeful about securing his services during the upcoming summer transfer window. Furthermore, adding credence to these speculations is Varane’s contractual circumstances with Manchester United. It is set to expire in June 2024, which elevates the likelihood of him forging a new path career-wise.
