Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been in the public eye ever since taking over Wrexham AFC. Back in 2020, no soccer fan could quite understand the reason two American celebrities would be interested in the team. Many fans even criticized the Welsh club for accepting Reynolds’ proposal to become an owner. However, in retrospect, it all seems to make sense about two years later.

Wrexham AFC just missed out on promotion last year by a whisker. However, the women’s soccer team has also taken huge strides toward success.

Ryan Reynolds applies for top-flight status

Recently, Ryan Reynolds applied for a license to play in the top-most league of women’s soccer in Wales. Wrexham could compete with Welsh soccer giants like Swansea and Cardiff if Reynolds manages to get the license. Wrexham currently plays in the second tier of the Welsh women’s soccer pyramid. They also had the option to apply for top-flight status last season.

However, Reynolds and his board were in a mutual agreement that the women’s side is not ready for that step up yet. Cascade and Britton Ferry are also in line with Wrexham AFC to hopefully gain top-flight status for the 2023-24 season. However, every application that is submitted will only be viewed after March.
