The summer transfer window has been quite busy for Inter Miami. Following the additions of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, another Barcelona star was captured by the Herons. David Beckham’s side recently brought Jordi Alba to Florida. As for Alba, the decision must have been easy, given his former teammates’ presence. However, the reason is much different than we thought.

It is nothing but a short Barcelona reunion at DRV PNK stadium as the trio is also playing under their former coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Let’s hear what the latest Miami addition has to say about his move, who apparently rejected much better offers.

After signing for Miami, Alba spoke about his move. He revealed that shortly after he decided to leave the Catalans, he had “nothing”, but knew his “cycle at Barcelona was over.” After leaving with the national team, the defender began talks with Miami. Interestingly, the Spaniard has revealed he rejected a few offers before joining the Pink side. However, he insisted that the “right decision was to come here.”

“We want to continue competing, winning, and I think we are on the right stage.” He continued, “I made the decision after the national team. Despite having offers of more money, I think the important thing for me was to feel important. The confidence of the club and the coach made me value this option as the one I liked the most.”

Notably, the wing-back also thanked the board of directors of the club. “One of the things that made me come here was the affection that everyone showed me, Jorge, José, David, and also the coach. I am very grateful for the personal treatment. Now I will try to make up for it on the pitch,” he said, as stated by Fox Sports.

Perhaps Alba will get to enjoy his freedom at Miami, which he didn’t get much from his former teammate and present coach, Xavi. The 34-year-old dropped down the hierarchy level after losing the starting spot to Alejandro Balde. Nevertheless, the defender also spoke about meeting his former teammates.

Excited to play alongside Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets

Alba emphasized that he, Messi, and Busquets are coming to Miami to “compete and to leave Inter Miami as high as possible.” On the individual front, he insisted to be “very happy” to meet “with Leo and Busi”. “From the experience we have we want to try to help our teammates, and I’m sure we will also learn from them in this league,” he reassured.

It’s quite fortunate for Miami to have the Barca trio in their ranks. Given the experience all three hold, they can surely offer more than what Miami needs. While Messi and Busquets have already delivered a promising start, it remains to be seen what Alba conjures up on the left flank.
