The disadvantage of being the best team in recent times is hitting Manchester City. The team yesterday suffered a loss against Aston Villa and has been facing much criticism lately. Although the defeat was by a thin margin, a legend of City called out Pep Guardiola’s team for its below-par performance.

It looks like even Guardiola has understood the situation and acknowledged the struggle. The club has faced quite a few challenges this year. Apart from a few key players leaving the club, it has also been under pressure from stiff competition. However, that cannot hide them from the experts, who always have an eye for detail.

Despite the previous results, the Sky Blues were considered favorites in the game. But the reigning European champs looked out of sorts with their gameplay. The inaccuracies and lack of push frustrated their supporters. One of their former players, Gael Clichy, was upset with their lack of flow. According to BBC, he said, “City played one of the worst games we’ve seen from them. There was no fluidity; they were lucky not to concede two, maybe three, or four.”

Even Aston Villa went into the game after a surprising draw against 15th-placed Bournemouth. But the hosts were found too hot for the league champions, as they finished the game with 22 attempts and seven on target. Unai Emery’s team had the chance to add more after Doulas Luiz missed two chances, one saved in front of the post and the other hitting the bar.

City was criticized earlier for its defensive weak links after the game against Tottenham Hotspurs. The team could not finish with a win, as Spurs were allowed to come back into the game many times.

No wonder the coach is worried about their midfield, which seemed to dip this season. Regarding his observations, Pep Guardiola stated, “In the final third, the quality of the pass and the movement, we didn’t find it all game.”

One of their key players, Rodri, also missed four games, which proved costly to the European club champions. However, the gap seems to widen in the league, which the treble winners need to revive ASAP.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
