Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo made strides in the soccer world for one of his most controversial decisions. Eyebrows were raised when the Portuguese superstar joined Al Nassr, a move that garnered him a lot of criticism. But as the globe bids farewell to 2023, Ronaldo walked down memory lane to take a dig at all the critics.

Likewise, the year became much more significant for Cristiano Ronaldo, as the 38-year-old became the top scorer for this year’s calendar year. This gave even more confidence to the striker to boldly silence his fault-finder.

Last night, Al Nassr played their final game of the year against Al Taawoun. As usual, it was the Riyadh side that clinched a 1-4 victory against their rivals. Following the match, Cristiano Ronaldo was taken aside to express his thoughts on his time so far. Interestingly, he said, “I am happy because the decision to come here, nobody believed that. But this is past and it doesn’t matter anymore.”

The striker also insisted that, with the influx of European stars, the global audience of the Roshn Saudi League has grown significantly. In fact, he claimed that more revered stars were going to arrive in the Gulf country. Either way, one must give it to Ronaldo for his dedication and belief in the Middle Eastern project, which unfortunately brought him into the negative limelight. Notably, both Ronaldo and Al Nassr are on a great run this season. Aside from this, the five-time Ballon d’Or spoke about his remarkable achievement.

CR7 will ‘try again’ for the top-scorer feat

In the same post-match interview, Cristiano was asked to express his thoughts on becoming the top scorer of the 2023 calendar year. He said, “Very happy. It was a good year for me, collective and individual too. I scored so many goals. I helped the team a lot in Al Nassr and in the national team, so I’m really proud to continue, and I feel very happy. Next year I’ll try to do it again.”

Following last night’s performance, Ronaldo was able to bring his tally to 54 goals. The skipper added fourth in the injury time, with Marcelo Brozovic, Aymeric Laporte and Otavio also finding back at the net. Sadly, Al Taawoun were 1-0 ahead, but Al Nassr seemed desperate for three points. With this victory, they are still in second place with 46 points.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
