In the last few days, Al Hilal star Ali Al-Bulayhi has made headlines for his altercation with Cristiano Ronaldo during the Riyadh derby. However, this is not the first time. The Saudi defender also got into an argument with Lionel Messi during their FIFA World Cup match in Qatar. Now, months later, the 34-year-old has revealed the contents of his conversation during the confrontation.

In the end, Saudi Arabia did win the historic match against the Argentina national team. Whereas, for the South American team, this was their last loss in the FIFA World Cup.

The FIFA World Cup is known for its underdog stories. One such story was the 2-1 win for Saudi Arabia over Argentina. It was a high-octane match as tempers started flowing between both teams. This led to a confrontation between Lionel Messi and Ali Al-Bulhayi. Now, in an interview with SBC, he has revealed their conversation. He said, “I spoke to Messi in Arabic and said, “Listen, even if you play us 3 or 4 times, you won’t win against us until you respect us.” But when I saw Gomez and Di Maria coming towards me, I left.”

This words rang true on that particular night as the Green Falcons dominated Argentina in their group fixture. The win against one of the best teams in the world helped the Saudi national team receive recognition on the international stage. This loss for Argentina turned out to be a perfect reality check for La Albiceleste. In the end, they rectified those mistakes to become the eventual World Cup champions.

The 34-year-old veteran defender was fully motivated for their match against Al Nassr. He played brilliantly and defended well in the derby to help his team win 3-0. However, his antics again made headlines. The Saudi international ensued in an argument with Cristiano Ronaldo during the match. He remained in the ear of the Portuguese star.

Ali-Al-Bulhayi did not stop there. After his team scored the second goal in the additional time of the second half, he started trolling Ronaldo’s Al Nassr teammate Alex Telles on the bench. He made taunting and crying gestures towards the bench. Al Nassr’s coaching staff had to stop the matter from escalating further.
