The World Cup elimination in the group stages gave a big wake-up call to the Belgium national team. The team has done well in the absence of star player Kevin De Bruyne. But, the one that is catching the eye is Romelu Lukaku. While everyone has been talking about the radiant form of Cristiano Ronaldo and other strikers, it is the 30-year-old who caught the eye of everyone with his brilliant performance against Azerbaijan.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku have proved their haters wrong in every way this season

Ronaldo made the surprising decision of making a switch from Manchester United to Al Nassr in the Saudi League. Many thought his national career was over. However, the Portuguese star has proved all the analyses wrong. In the UEFA qualifiers, he scored 10 goals and 2 assists in only 9 games at the age of 38. Meanwhile, for Al Nassr, he has scored 16 goals and 9 assists this season. The veteran forward is currently the highest goal scorer in the league. It certainly looks like Ronaldo is aging like fine wine in terms of goals for country and club.

Romelu Lukaku also faced the same treatment as Cristiano Ronaldo from haters at the start of the season. At the end of the summer transfer window, he got his move on loan from Chelsea to Roma. Since then he has scored goals for fun. For Belgium in qualifiers, he scored 14 goals in only 8 matches. That is nearly averaging 2 goals every match. He also done brilliantly for AS Roma. The Belgian has scored 9 goals in 14 matches for Jose Mourinho’s side.
