Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham, they have completely flipped the narrative around the club. The main driving force behind this change has been their masterstroke decision to produce a documentary about the club called ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. Incredibly, the documentary became a hit instantly, making Wrexham a household figure in America.

Another show that has managed to bring soccer to the forefront is Apple TV’s humorous drama Ted Lasso; which chronicles the tale of an inexperienced American football coach hired to train an English soccer team. While both shows are wildly different, they are united by the fact that they have been instrumental in pushing the sport to the masses. ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ editors, in a recent interview, acknowledged the same while showering praises on ‘Ted Lasso’.

Recently, the editing team of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ – Curtis McConnell, Michael Anthony Brown, Charles Little II, ACE, and Mohammed El Manasterly sat down for an interview with Hello! magazine. The architects behind the show were asked multiple questions throughout the chat. However, the highlight was their answer on comparisons with ‘Ted Lasso’. When asked if they had seen the viral fiction, Charles took the lead and said yes.

The editor found it cool that there are two high-profile series that are bringing the sport to the masses. He then revealed that they achieved their goal of popularizing soccer due to the collaborative efforts of both shows. And so, he requests fans to also watch ‘Ted Lasso’ for a complete experience. We’ve been trying to do that now for a really, really long time. And these two series, I think they both play into that as well,” said Charles.

The reason why both shows work so well is their humor. This was not to be, if not for an important intervention that saved many of the best jokes from ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ from being cut off in the final edit.

In the realm of creative professions, numerous insecurities often accompany the territory. Unless one possesses a strong sense of self-confidence and conviction, the tendency to become exceptionally indecisive is quite likely. This is precisely what occurred with the editor Mohammed El Manasterly, who grappled with determining the inclusion of specific jokes in the final cut. Ranging from gauging relatability to assessing the potential offensiveness of the jokes, the editor was mostly confused between these two factors during the edit.

“I always used to get into these debates of whether this is going to fly or this is offensive or what it is,” said Mohammed. However lucky for fans, his compatriots helped him big time and helped him select some of the best bits from the Ryan Reynolds starrer. “And I think it was great having these different minds and different cultural perspectives to weigh in on these things,” said the editor thanking his mates.
