It’s no secret that FC Barcelona is in troubled waters. Aside from volatile on-pitch performances, the club continues to battle with its precarious finances. Despite being in a tight spot financially, big-money arrivals continue to get linked with a move to Camp Nou. This time, rumors concern the potential departure of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong to make way for signing Kylian Mbappe, a move which Deco believes ‘would be a mistake.’

Unlike some elite clubs and popular speculation, the Catalans think twice before spending their money. However, accommodating dream signings could mean sacrificing their current stars at a higher price, a possibility that the current Sporting Director has ruled out. Speaking in an interview with Esport3 and as complied by 3CAT, the former Portuguese star explained, “We’ll see. It would be a mistake to sell Frenkie and Araujo for Mbappe. It would make the team worse.” Perhaps there is a greater reason why Deco isn’t in favor of such an ideology.

Selling the star Uruguayan defender and the Dutch midfielder would make it difficult for the club to fill both voids. Also, it’s no secret that accommodating Kylian Mbappe would mean giving him a lucrative contract, which FC Barcelona’s books won’t allow. Notably, De Jong has often made the transfer headlines, with Manchester United being his long-term admirer. On the other hand, Araujo recently landed on the radar of Bayern Munich. Yet, without a doubt, the Catalan club will reject the offers as both stars are considered ‘untouchables‘.

Another major factor that would deter Kylian Mbappe from donning FC Barcelona’s red and blue jersey is his apparent eagerness to sport the white shirt of their arch-rivals instead.

The French media reported on Sunday that Kylian Mbappe has reached an agreement to join Real Madrid once his contract with PSG expires in June. However, the player will likely have to accept a significant reduction in his salary to fulfill his dream of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, there seems to be a twist in the tale.

The French giants reportedly offered him a new contract of a whopping $109 million per year. But it’s unlikely that the 2018 World Cup winner will again make a U-turn and stay put at Parc des Princes. Additionally, PSG’s ambassador also signaled that the move has already been given a green light.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
