Controversies around the 2030 World Cup have already begun! For the first time, the prestigious tournament will be hosted on three different continents, with the first three games taking place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The remaining matches will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. While many raised eyebrows over this unconventional World Cup arrangement, the national manager of Kylian Mbappe fired a harsh comment on the hosting decisions, which interestingly also got strong backing from another 1998 World Champion.

Meanwhile, the announcement of the 2030 FIFA World Cup hosts dealt a massive blow to Saudi Arabia, which eventually led to them taking a U-turn from their unique decision.

Following the announcement of the 2030 World Cup hosts, the national coach of Kylian Mbappe, Didier Deschamps, gave his thoughts about the hosting decisions taken by FIFA. He insisted that South American countries would have an advantage over other teams. The coach added, “I don’t know who makes the decisions, but I won’t hide from you the fact that I like things that are more coherent on a sporting and ethical level. I don’t think there is much coherence there.”

His words somehow became a topic of discussion at ESPN newsrooms, where Didier Deschamps’ national teammate, Frank Leboeuf, backed his words. Leboeuf first questioned how it would work and also insisted that the 2026 World Cup which will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, is also “very strange,” and doesn’t please him.

Then he said, “I understand that you want to celebrate 100 years. Do that in Uruguay. Maybe do the World Cup in Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina if they want to and wait for another time to do it in Europe, but you can’t mix everybody. I mean, it’s stupid for me.” Indeed, these are some bold claims from the 1998 World Cup winner.

Certainly, many are still not convinced about FIFA’s choice of multiple host nations. Building on that, Saudi Arabia is also feeling disheartened after missing out on hosting the 2030 tournament. Consequently, they are contemplating a change in their stance on the alcohol ban.
