He adds, “The challenge with Messi… is to try and find a new way of expressing what he does. Our job as commentators is to articulate. People often say of people like Messi (that) he defies description. Actually, in my view, he doesn’t. He invites description. He does beautiful things.”

Drury’s voice features on a popular compilation video that starts with Argentina’s defeat to Germany in the 2014 final and ends with Messi lifting the World Cup last year. The video has gained over 1.2 million views on YouTube and has become quite dear to Messi fans.

Drury also reveals that he enjoys the challenge that comes with Messi. He reveals, “I wouldn’t apologize for perhaps spending five minutes before a Messi game thinking of a different way around talking about Messi because, basically, the full lexicon of adjectives has been and gone with him.”

The 55-year-old commentator believes that it’s a journalist challenge to find new ways to describe players’ on-field greatness. “It’s part of the journalistic challenge, it’s part of the linguistic challenge, if you like, to find a new way to articulate the work of established superstars,” he further adds.

Looking back at Messi’s past career, the Argentine legend has shown unimaginable results. Furthermore, even after achieving everything, the seven times Ballon d’Or winner continues to dominate MLS. Despite the Herons’ splendid future plans, Inter Miami recently parted ways with the 33-year-old star.
