It was in 2017 that Neymar made a historic switch from FC Barcelona to PSG for a whopping $222 million. His move has changed the course of transfers since then. However, that wasn’t the end of it, as no other than Cristiano Ronaldo brought about another radical shift in the soccer course.

The Portuguese superstar has added a new frontrunner in the transfer market, specifically the Saudi Arabian party. Ever since he made a shocking move to Al Nassr, teams from the Middle East are entering the European transfer market. Surprisingly, soccer isn’t the only sport they’ve entered, as they are slowly capturing other sports as well. And this new revolution isn’t likened to that of a soccer legend who has slammed the Gulf country’s financial dominance.

With the ongoing summer transfer market, a lot of players are getting linked with a move to the Gulf country. Simultaneously, there are rumors stating that Manchester City star Bernardo Silva is close to joining a Saudi Pro League team. This news somehow caught the eye of former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, who didn’t take the news well.

The English commentator retweeted Silva’s news with some blasting words for Saud Arabia. He wrote, “Bernardo Silva is in his peak years & has been one of the best players in Europe for the last five years! I wasn’t worried about the Saudi League taking players in their 30’s, a touch worried with players below the elite (Neves) but if this happens it feels like a game changer.”

He continued, “Saudi have taken over Golf, the big Boxing fights & now they want to take over football!! This sports washing needs to be stopped! @premierleague @UEFA.” Carragher can’t believe his ears that the Saudi League is constantly hijacking soccer stars that still have a lot to offer in Europe. While he has no problem with players over 30 moving to the Middle East, he expressed a bit of remorse for Ruben Neves’ move to Al Hilal.

He slammed the country for overusing its financial prowess not only in soccer but in sports like golf and boxing. The former England international also urged soccer’s apex authorities, UEFA and Premier League, to take strict action. Deliberately, because players continue to follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps.

Ronaldo is seemingly a trendsetter as the player has changed the course of the transfer market. Other teams of the Saudi Pro League are taking their shopping carts and buying any players they want.
