In the world of soccer, the phrase ‘the more the merrier’ often rings excitement for fans. Simply because watching multiple tournaments can be a source of joy and excitement. But behind the scenes, the abundance of competitions can become a relentless challenge for both athletes and coaches. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr boss has recently raised his voice in frustration, directing his rage toward Saudi Arabia’s congested soccer calendar.

Even though Europe also witnesses a bustling domestic schedule, the Al Nassr manager contends that Middle Eastern tournaments bring an entirely different level of intensity, which does not even allow them to train properly.

On September 19th, Al Nassr flew to Iran for their AFC Champions League fixture. Two days later, they played their Roshn Saudi League fixture. Following this, the Riyadh side played a King Cup fixture, and two days later, yesterday, they again played in the SPL. Now on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. will be hosting Tajikistan’s Istikol in the AFC Champions League.

This barely gives them time to train for the upcoming clash, which has left Al Nassr boss Luis Castro angry. The Portuguese coach has slammed Saudi Arabia for it’s congested fixtures. He said, “There is no country in the world that has a schedule to play a match every two days. We never train. We only rely on video analysis and player recovery. This is unreasonable, but we are forced to do it.”

Castro insists consecutive fixtures not only leave players and coaches struggling to maintain peak performance but also hinder their ability to dedicate valuable time to training. Indeed, these are some bold claims from the 62-year-old. Castro’s rival coaches would also resonate with his words.

It remains to be seen if the Saudi soccer authorities take any action in response. For now, Ronaldo and Co. would need to match their pace with a jam-packed schedule. Meanwhile, let’s talk about Al Nassr’s last night’s victory against Al Tai, as Cristiano Ronaldo saved his side.
