This year’s roster was a fusion of young and veteran players. Subsequently, Lynn Williams also made into this year’s WC squad for the first time. Sadly, the forward couldn’t clinch her first golden trophy. With disappointment, the Gotham FC star wrote an emotional message on Instagram.

She wrote, “Sometimes, soccer can be cruel. We sacrifice so much for this game – Time away from our families, tearing our bodies apart, and a billion other things that most people will never understand. For our dedication and reasoning for wearing the crest to be questioned is unfathomable. I am proud of this team!”

Williams also hopes her story inspires people to not give up easily. “To wear this crest is always and honor and a privilege. Thank you,” she concluded. Indeed, it was quite a heartfelt note that also received a loving response from the fanbase and her teammates. Despite all this, the criticism hasn’t stopped at all.

Criticism continues for USWNT

The USWNT is currently flooded with criticism from the soccer fraternity. The 2019 Champions have left a bad impression on the fanbase, which is constantly getting them slandered. More surprisingly, the jeering also came from the mouth of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

He characterized his nation’s exit from the tournament as ‘shocking and totally unexpected’. Mr. Trump specifically targeted Megan Rapinoe and slammed her for missing the penalty against Sweden. The conclusion of this World Cup journey was rather disheartening for the United States. At present, the entire team is likely engaging in self-reflection and will be looking to bounce back in the next tournament.
