Just hours ago, Manchester City played an emphatic six-goal thriller against Tottenham Hotspur. But the spotlight has shifted away from the final score. Erling Haaland made headlines when he slammed referee Simon Hooper over his key decision during the game. Now, Haaland’s teammate Bernardo Silva has intervened in the debate and has offered his backing to the official.

Additionally, Haaland’s foul-mouthed rant directed at Hooper could land him in deep waters. The Norwegian faces the possibility of incurring charges at the hands of the FA. However, all is not against the referee as Manchester City attacker Bernardo Silva offered a message of support.

While Hooper has amassed criticism for his decision, Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has offered his backing to the referee. After the match, he said, “It’s a bad decision [by Simon Hooper] and everyone saw it. In the end, we’re all human. The referee is probably the first to know that it was a very, very bad decision because he [Jack Grealish] was face-to-face with the goalkeeper and he could have given us the three points.”

While acknowledging the difficulty in accepting the loss, Silva acknowledged that making mistakes is a part of the game. “Of course it’s difficult to accept them, because we could have won the game and it wasn’t because of us, it was because of an external decision. But it’s… It’s football, man, it’s football!” he concluded.

During the match, Haaland experienced a foul by Spurs defender Emerson Royal within the center circle but managed to recover and swiftly pass the ball to Jack Grealish. Initially, Hooper indicated that he was playing the advantage, but he later halted play by blowing the whistle just as Grealish found himself in a 1v1 situation.

Nevertheless, it was quite interesting to see Silva defend Hooper, given that his teammate, Haaland, expressed his anger.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
