But is he the only player with the most caps ever who has not retired yet? No, we look at another legend, Fábio Deivson Lopes Maciel, who is ahead of Ronaldo in this soccer marathon.

Fans already praise the 38-year-old for his longevity and goal-scoring abilities. With 1200 games in his kitty, the player is a reputed mental monster. Here, we look at what his legendary career has been all these years.

The only active player to have more matches than Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo made his debut in 2003 and managed to reach the 1200-game landmark recently with Al Hilal. Although Fabio’s professional journey began with União Bandeirante in 1997, his true senior career launched in 2000 at Vasco da Gama. Since then, the Brazilian has been an unstoppable force, racking up 1,277 appearances, placing him well ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s current total of 1,200.

The 43-year-old, after a low-key start, played for several famous clubs, including Atlético Paranaense and Cruzeiro. Deivson has also collected numerous accolades to his name; he was a part of the Vasco squad that won the 2000 Brasileiro Serie A. Besides, he has two Brazilian championships with Cruzeiro, where he spent most of his time.

The player has been part of the Brazilian squad that won the 2004 Copa America and the 2003 Confederations Cup. But the star did not appear once for his senior team on the pitch. Despite being considered a bright upcoming talent after winning the U17 World Cup 1997, the Canarinhos never considered Deivson a part of the starting eleven. However, the player’s never-give-up attitude has brought him worthy compensation.

Fabio will grace the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in the absence of Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss this year’s FIFA Club World Cup as Al Nassr did not play in last year’s AFC Champions League. But Fabio’s current club, Fluminense, qualified after their Copa Libertadores triumph against Boca Juniors earlier this year.

Fabio played an important part in their Libertadores win, with three clean sheets out of the 13 matches he played. The player has more than 300 clean sheets in his career overall and more than 50 with Fluminence. The player’s determination has given him some achievements, but noteworthy still is how many more years he will persist.
