KC Current looks to have set its sights on greatness this year. All eyes are on the Kansas-based soccer team ever since they established their status as the first women’s team to have a dedicated home ground. Against this backdrop, USWNT legend Sam Mewis has come forward to appreciate the team’s investors, Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, claiming that she doesn’t ‘accept anything less at this point‘ from the part-owners who invested $117 million!
The Current kicked off their 2024 NWSL campaign on a high note by clinching a 5-4 victory against the Portland Thorns at their very own CPKC Stadium. Interestingly, the 9-goal thriller became a topic of discussion on ‘The Women’s Game’ podcast, hosted by Mewis. Lynn Williams was asked to talk about the game, to which the Gotham FC star replied, “Kansas City is obviously building some kind of crazy culture there. The biggest takeaway is that it’s not just a place that players want to play but it’s a place that fans want to come and watch players play and I think that is what I got from watching the game. I was like, ‘This is exciting.'” Interestingly, this led Mewis to add her POV as well.

“It’s awesome. I think for that reason exactly the Current are a payday because that’s how you need to be spending your money on your team. By just building that stadium, I accept anything less at this point,” added the former midfielder, who represented the Current in the 2022–23 season. It seems that the 2019 World Champion is impressed with Mahomes’ work for the Current so far. Notably, you would be surprised to know what inspired the NFL star to spend his millions on the NWSL club.
