Paris Saint Germain seems to be at a major turning point in their path right now. With Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. making their way out of European football, it has been a tumultuous summer for the French giants. The ‘MNM’ strikeforce of PSG which consisted, of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, and Kylian Mbappe had been the envy for the past two seasons. But, it has been dismantled in recent months, which, a former Nantes forward believes is better for PSG.

Andy Delort, former Nantes attacker and Algerian International insisted that the exits of Neymar and Messi made the French champions better than before.

Andy Delort, who played a couple of seasons for Montpellier and OGC Nice, before being passed on to FC Nantes was delighted to see Leo Messi and Neymar move away from PSG. The 31-year-old, who is now a consultant on RMC, expressed his satisfaction with the dissolution of ‘MNM.’ Delort, who boasts three of his career goals against PSG across his spells with different Ligue 1 teams, insisted that PSG are in a better shape now than before.

As reported by FootMercato, the Algerian international who plays for Umm Salal in Qatar, was asked about the end of the MNM trio on RMC’s ‘Rothen Ignites’. He said, “Even on the pitch or when we did the pre-match video sessions, it was obvious that the front three weren’t defending too much and that it wasn’t the Paris of two or three years ago, which was more balanced.”

Delort stated that even though the attacking prospects of the PSG lineup are pretty much high, their defending was a matter of concern. Since PSG’s front three didn’t offer much while defending, that cost them a lot in terms of balance. He also emphasized the fact that with too much potential in PSG’s squad, they look to be in good shape this summer. Their recruitment strategy to fill in the gaps left by superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. is up to the mark this season, which will benefit them in the long run.

I find their recruitment this summer interesting. These are players who have a different state of mind than the players who left. With a Mbappé who, as we have seen again, is a phenomenon. He responded in the best possible way again, and I think he and PSG are going to have a great season,” Delort added.

The Algerian international is optimistic about the new-looking Paris Saint Germain. With PSG already confirmed the signings of Ousmane Dembele, Goncalo Ramos, Marco Asensio, and Lucas Hernandez this summer, they seem to be prepared for the challenges ahead of them in the upcoming seasons.

PSG’s chances of winning the UEFA Champions League

With Messi and Neymar gone, PSG’s chances of winning the Champions League have undoubtedly been weakened. However, the club still has a talented squad, led by Mbappé. If Mbappé can stay fit and continue to perform at a high level, PSG will still be a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League. However, they will need to find a way to replace the goals and creativity that Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. provided.

The Parisian club has been trying for Champions League glory for the past few years. Still after investing astounding amounts of money in the transfer market and player wages, the club struggled to get their hands on the trophy. PSG will be hoping to charge again with their new reinforcements and get ahead of other European clubs this time.

With Messi, happy and satisfied with his life in Miami and Neymar gearing up for the Saudi Pro League, only time will tell whether PSG can overcome the loss of their superstars and win the Champions League.
