“We Were Skeptical About It” – Andy Murray Announces His US Open 2020 Plan

Former US Open champion Andy Murray has announced his participation at the US Open 2020. Initially, the Brit Murray was apprehensive regarding US Open’s staging, but right now, he’s being realistic and has begun his preparations for the same.
Murray has mentally prepared himself for the tournament and has decided to book his tickets to New York. In the year 2020, he did not step on the professional tennis courts due to the prolonged issues of his injuries. But, at present, Andy seems to have recovered and is ready to hit the balls on the professional courts.
“Yeah. As it stands. We have to try and prepare that way, we were saying four or five weeks ago, you know, we were pretty skeptical about it but mentally at some stage, you need to start preparing and planning for that. My training this week, for example, during the event next week, I’m planning to try and be there in shape for the US Open,” he said. (as quoted by Metro)

Andy Murray to play Cincinnati Open as well
Last year, Andy Murray made a comeback on the ATP courts, after undergoing the resurfacing of his hip. He played some challenger events and then flew to Belgium for an ATP event in Antwerp. Murray defeated World Number 17 Stan Wawrinka in a phenomenal championship match and held his comeback title.
Post that, he flew to Madrid for Davis Cup finals, but couldn’t give his best due to an injury in his groin.

“I’m not particularly keen on playing back-to-back weeks but it’s also kind of in a situation here where you’re potentially not getting to play in a proper tournament for like – well for a lot of the guys it’ll be five, six months but for me like 10 months since I last competed properly,” he added.
Also, before the commencement of the US Open on August 31, 2020, Cincinnati Open will be staged on the same site as the US Open. Andy is also considering to feature at Cincy event and has requested for a wildcard. In 2019, Murray played his first singles match in Cincinnati, Ohio since his Aussie Open defeat, and lost to Richard Gasquet in straight sets.
Also, Andy’s compatriot Johanna Konta has announced her appearance at US Open 2020.
