Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini was up against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the US Open 2021. Similar to their previous two meetings this season, it was the Serb who emerged victoriously. Interestingly, in the post-match press conference, the Italian was talking on the GOAT debate involving Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
When Matteo was asked about his opinion, he did mention by the statistics, Djokovic seems to be in a more commanding position over Federer or Nadal. However, he did mention that different individuals can have different opinions. The Italian star also gave examples of Sampras and Agassi.
While speaking on the topic, Berrettini stated, “No, it’s always tricky this question for me because there are personal opinions and then there are stats and stuff. I just know we are experiencing something that didn’t happen in the last I don’t know how many years. Just looking at the stats, just looking at the numbers, he’s doing something that the other two didn’t do.”
