“They are Killing Tennis”- Nick Kyrgios

Displaying his love for team events in Tennis, the fiery Australian Nick Kyrgios believes that the team events in Tennis are liked by TV viewers and they should happen more often than not to keep the sport going.

Kyrgios, who has been a consistent part of team tournaments like the Laver Cup further commented -“I think moving forward that is the way the sport has to go. You look at the best sports in the world and from an entertainment purpose, they are killing Tennis.”

The 24-year old was instrumental in Team Australia reaching the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid as they are facing Team Canada for a place in the semis. But, Nick Kyrgios has been rested for this knockout tie against the Canadians.

Expressing his interest in playing at events like the Laver Cup, “There have to be more events like the Laver Cup where there are 17000 people and more viewers than during a grand-slam.”

The Aussie reinstated that the four grand-slams will always be at the top of tennis and due to abundant scheduling of tournament every week, people are losing interest in the sport.

Moreover, the responsibility of not letting the team down is what makes Nick Kyrgios produce sublime tennis at times in certain team events.

Following his numerous outbursts over the past year, the Australian had to end his ATP season after being put on a six month probationary period by the ATP tour.

Except for the team events, Nick Kyrgios failed to deliver consistently this year as he managed to win two titles – one at Acapulco and another title at Washington. He seemed highly determined throughout the week at the Citi Open (Washington) and defeated his peers Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev to clinch the title.

Kyrgios is trying to regain the lost momentum and the Davis Cup Finals had presented a right opportunity for him to bounce back as he showed absolute dominance in both his singles matches in the tournament. His service is top-notch and he could be Australia’s main weapon as they look to win the Davis Cup Finals under the leadership of Lleyton Hewitt.
