Chiefly, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is on the warpath to become the greatest welterweight champion of all time. He’s fresh off a TKO win at UFC 258 over Gilbert Burns, the former top contender in the division.
With Usman’s name as the champion constantly growing, Conor McGregor, a fighter who occasionally fights in his division, potentially crosses his path. Fans have wondered how ‘The Notorious’ would have fared against Usman if they fought after McGregor’s victory over Donald Cerrone. What’s more, a win over the sitting welterweight champion would make McGregor the first three-division champion and top pound-for-pound fighter.

After being asked about certain comments made about Usman’s drawing power versus McGregor, the welterweight champion spoke out. Chiefly, Usman called himself the marquee money fighter using McGregor’s iconic phrase as he was the one who held the belt. Conor McGregor didn’t appreciate Kamaru Usman’s play on his ‘red panty night’ phrasing, and Usman responded to the criticism.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ said, “Conor doesn’t need that green panty night, you know. That’s the thing with me, who makes more sense? I understand what he saying but mine actually makes more sense. You fight with me, that’s greens. You fight for the title, you ask for, you demand a lot more money and that’s why I stated that.”

How does an Usman vs McGregor bout shape-up?
Kamaru Usman revealed that McGregor was ducking a fight against him and made sure to extend a verbal offer. Given the pay-per-view upside, it makes sense why Kamaru Usman will be looking to fight the Irishman. Moreover, he shared his candid views on what a fight between both the welterweight fighters will look like.

“Conor knows he doesn’t want those problems. I’ve offered him a title fight. I’ve had an interview with you and I told you I’m giving Conor the shot, Conor, you have the shot if you want it. Conor doesn’t want it. At the end of the day, Conor won’t way say my name…These guys recognize what’s happening.”
