Boxing personalities returning to the ring is a dominant theme in 2020. First, it was Mike Tyson who took the world by storm with his return. Now, it appears as though ‘The Baddest Man on The Planet’ has triggered an avalanche. Evander Holyfield followed suit, and now, Oscar De La Hoya will make an in-ring return.
As expected, De La Hoya’s comeback is being discussed even in the MMA world. Journalists asked UFC President Dana White about the same at the UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs Edgar press conference.

White responded to the question on his ‘good friend’ and treated the fans to an amusing reply, saying, “Cocaine isn’t cheap. It’s expensive. You’ve gotta make money.”
The reply may not be most accurate, as ‘The Golden Boy’ earns a pretty penny as part of his company, Golden Boy Promotions that manages names like Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia.
Who could Oscar De La Hoya fight?
‘The Golden Boy’ won world championships in 8 different weight classes throughout a 16-year career. However, he bowed out as a professional following a defeat at the hands of the ‘PacMan’ Manny Pacquiao.

The Philippine is still an active competitor and holds the WBA’s Super welterweight title. This could also be a problem, as De La Hoya hasn’t indicated whether his return will be on a full-time basis or a part-time basis like Tyson’s. So who else could ‘The Golden Boy’ line up against?

An option for ‘The Golden Boy’ is a fight against Conor McGregor. In May, the boxer challenged the UFC fighter and claimed that he could end a match within the first six minutes.

Later, he said that this wasn’t a challenge, but McGregor seemed to take it as one and responded positively. With ‘Notorious’ retired from the UFC and continuously dropping hints of a boxing match, this could be a prime option.
Whoever Oscar De La Hoya fights, he will make a boatload of money, more than what he does as a promoter. And as per Dana White’s claims, he will have a lot of money to spend on his recreational drugs.
