Conor McGregor made a successful comeback at welterweight last month against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone defeating him in only 40 seconds. Leading up to his return fight against Cerrone, McGregor dropped a few names he would like to face in the future. Fighters such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal made his list. Among the names that he mentioned, Colby Covington was also one of them.
Conor seemed very impressed with the fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. And a fight with Covington certainly interests him at the welterweight division.
In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, McGregor expressed his desire to fight them all. He said, “Any of these mouthy fools can get it!”

Well, when asked about the performance of Conor McGregor against Donald Cerrone, Colby Covington did not seem impressed. In fact, he made fun of Conor for his physical altercation with the old man at the bar. In a recent interview with ScoreMMA, Covington said:
“I am happy for Con Man McGregor. Because he redeemed himself. He could not even knock out that old-ass dude on the barstool with the hit in a free shot a sucker punch. He still could not knock the dude of the barstool. So the fact that he came back and was able to knock out Cowboy Cerrone. Good for him. He deserves a pat on the back.”

Covington was referring to the video which surfaced last year in which Conor was seen hitting an old man in a bar. The old man was visibly unfazed by McGregor’s antics.

A fight between Mcgregor and Covington will be a barn burner. The build-up to the fight would be interesting as both fighters are excellent on the microphone. Both fighters have polar opposite fighting styles. McGregor packs insane power in his punches while Covington likes to mix his combination of strikes with his insane cardio.
And if this fight does come to fruition and Conor gets past Colby Covington, it would make Conor a strong contender or probably the next in line for the welterweight title. It’s to be noted that Covington lost a very close fight against Usman and a win over him will certainly remove all the doubts surrounding the question, whether Conor can fight the welterweight elites despite having the size disadvantage.
