In recent years, we have witnessed a trend of MMA fighters transitioning into boxing. From Conor McGregor to Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva, many fighters have sought to broaden their horizons and increase their earning potential by stepping into the boxing ring. One of the latest fighters to express interest in boxing is Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou, who was previously signed with the UFC, is now a free agent due to contract disputes. His departure from the UFC has fueled speculation that he may make the move to boxing. Many MMA fans and analysts have given their opinions about Ngannou’s future. Recently, Curtis Blaydes, Ngannou’s former opponent, also talked a bit on this matter.

‘Razor’ is of the opinion that Ngannou prefers the striking game, and wants to avoid grappling. “I don’t think (he will return to the UFC). I believe he’s going to get a boxing fight. He only needs one to make $10 or $15 million. After you make $15 million, it’s hard to go back to $800,000 and he doesn’t want to have to deal with the grappling. He would rather just have to strike.”

Blaydes believes that Ngannou‘s chances of success in boxing are high due to his one-punch knockout power. Blaydes compared Ngannou‘s boxing prospects to those of Conor McGregor. McGregor lost his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. However, Blaydes believes that Ngannou could fare better due to the difference in weight classes and knockout power.

“The only reason he has a chance to beat those guys is because it’s heavyweight. If he was 155 (lbs) like McGregor (no chance for him). I never thought (McGregor) was actually going to beat Floyd. He doesn’t have that one-punch knockout power, especially with those big gloves on.”
