Trading an arms dealer for the Griner did not sit well with some people. Many have labeled it to be the worst trade. There are multiple narratives that are making rounds of this prisoner exchange. However, the Russian angle on this trade is going to spark further concerns and fuel even more debate on the matter.

In the most recent episode of the JRE, Joe Rogan and the guest, Steven Rinella, discussed the Griner-Bout trade and how it’s being perceived by the masses. And upon doing so, Rogan brought up a clip from a Russian show that revealed their viewpoint on the trade and it reveals a story that many may not know about, which infuriated the audience.

In episode #1912 of the JRE, Joe Rogan, right off the bat, stated, “Brittney Griner trade for that arms dealer scares the sh*t out of me.”

Following that, the guest, Steven Rinella, put forth his understanding of this dubious trade. Rinella said, “I have like, one understanding of it where I’m like, ‘Oh, so she broke a rule’, the rule seems like not that big of a deal… And I’m like holy sh*t, they’re really using her as a political pawn.”

He further added, “Then you read like a narrative that would be like, ‘We traded international arms dealer… Merchant of Death, for a dope smoker. We didn’t get the marine(Paul Whelan) back, the person(Brittney Griner) didn’t want didn’t want the national anthem played at their games’, right? And you go, ‘Oh, there’s a narrative’, you know what I mean? There’s like a well crafted narrative that I didn’t put together.”

Bringing to Rinella‘s surprise, the UFC commentator shared Russia’s angle to the trade and how they supposedly conducted it. “It turned out that they offered one or the other.” Which caught Rinella, and those who were watching the clip, off-guard. The 55-year-old further added, “That’s supposedly, it was a one versus one. You could pick which one. And in Russia, there’s this political show, sort of like a Fox News type show.”

Talking about that particular show, the UFC commentator stated how they made a complete mockery of the US’ decision of trading Brittney Griner for Viktor Bout.

And as the audience learned what transpired in that trade according to that clip, they were unable to suppress their frustration and proceeded to rant in the comment area.

Fans are furious after learning the Russian narrative on the trade

The fans were shocked beyond belief when they learned all that was discussed in the JRE clip. And following that, the fans responded by venting their frustration and disappointment at what happened and where the US stands now. Many claimed that the Griner–Bout trade has put the US look in an embarrassing position world map.
