‘A Donation, Not a Debt’- Conor McGregor Reveals Why Dustin Poirier’s Charity Did Not Receive $500,000 From Him

UFC megastar Conor McGregor took to social media and finally sent out his response to Dustin Poirier’s recent allegations. ‘The Diamond’ came out on Twitter and called out McGregor for failing to follow through on his promise of making a donation. Chiefly McGregor’s $500,000 donation to Dustin Poirier’s charity, ‘The Good Fight Foundation’ was a huge narrative going into UFC 257.
The news that ‘The Notorious’ hadn’t followed through on his donation certainly took the MMA community by storm. Fans of the Irishman immediately came out to defend McGregor as ‘The Notorious’ hadn’t yet released a statement. Dustin Poirier didn’t let up and immediately explained his original claim that McGregor failed on his follow-through.
We thanked him because his team reached out fight week to initiate the process but ghosted us the past 2 months after the fight. My foundation has reached out 3 times since with no reply. We've moved past it! We will be announcing our next goal soon! Its a big one🙏 https://t.co/mtiOFBsd2q

However, McGregor came out and set the record straight by explaining he never received an exact plan for his funds. ‘The Notorious’ said that he always does his due diligence when donating money, however, Poirier failed to outline his intentions.
A donation, not a debt. We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations. Know where it’s going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.

The aforementioned situation certainly leaves a lot to be desired, as the details have now become shaky at best. Fans are largely confused about who is exactly in the right in this equation, as the specifics have become blurred. However, there’s no doubt that the entire situation could very well be the tipping point to stoke to flames of a rivalry.

The controversy surrounding the failed donation bid by McGregor has only brought more attention to the fight itself. On a competitive level, it is likely the bout that will determine the next man to fight for lightweight gold. McGregor and Poirier have shown that they are right up there in terms of being elite 155-pounders.
‘The Diamond’ will take away a lot from his second scrap against McGregor that ended in a violent finish. On the contrary, Conor McGregor believes that he’s identified all shortcomings from their UFC 257 fight and will make the adjustments. Hence, the fight has all the makings of a high-level chess match, and tensions may simmer with the donation narrative.
