After claiming the heavyweight title at UFC 285, talks of Jon Jones facing Stipe Miocic as his first title defense had created quite a buzz among fans. The 35-year-old former light heavyweight champ even took on Twitter to call out Miocic, resulting in a response from the 40-year-old earlier this month.

Miocic, while shutting down Jones’s earlier claims that he was the one running from the fight, posted a clip of UFC president Dana White talking about how the heavyweight champ disappeared following his win. Jones’s response to the tweet, which interestingly confirms that he did lie low for a few weeks, doesn’t seem to have gone down well with another UFC legend. Addressing this back and forth, this former fighter took a jibe at ‘Bones,’ questioning the idea of him disappearing.

Speaking about the Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic scenario, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen gave his perspective in a fresh video on his YouTube channel. Sonnen, as he addressed the heavyweight champ’s tweet wherein he seemingly confirmed that he did disappear for a few weeks, dismissed the idea of doing that in today’s social media age.

Pointing out that Jones would probably have been active on Instagram and Twitter during the said time frame, the 46-year-old mentioned another aspect as to why going underground in that manner was not a possibility.

“I will also just add for you. There’s no such thing as disappearing for weeks or months, not in this sport. You must be accessible 24* 7 to USADA” he said “…he had the phone, he had the device, and he just didn’t check his texts?

Sonnen also stated that it was hard for him to wrap his head around the fact that someone would even think of lying low, especially when a big paycheck and a big fight are involved.

“It’s a really hard one for me to understand. Particularly if your boss is trying to get a hold of you to give you a multi-million dollar job and he’s only called you once in the last four years,” he said.

Jon Jones fired back at Stipe Miocic earlier

Sonnen’s take on these developments comes from the Twitter back and forth that took place between Jones and the former champ recently. Accusing Miocic of dodging him in 2022, Jones had derided the 40-year-old for not accepting a fight in July and numerous times last year.

Following these accusations, Miocic came out with a tweet of his own claiming that it was Jones who chose to not be available and posted a clip of Dana White talking about it. Naturally, ‘Bones’ fired back at him, ridiculing Miocic once again in the process.
