Joe Rogan, the UFC color commentator and host of the JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing tussle between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. The feud between the two former friends turned bitter rivals led to them being involved in an altercation just weeks after their clash at UFC 272. Covington had secured a win via unanimous decision in the fight, but the tension between the two men spilled outside the cage just weeks after.

According to Rogan, Covington may have sustained a severe concussion as a result of the injuries he sustained outside the Octagon. The podcast host examined the details surrounding the altercation which went to court after Covington pressed charges on Masvidal. And Rogan has made an interesting observation that may have implications for ‘Chaos’ and his upcoming fight against the welterweight champion, Leon Edwards!

Jorge Masvidal has put an end to his legal tussle with Colby Covington, pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery in a plea deal that spared him jail time for a 2022 incident outside a Miami restaurant. Speaking on The MMA Hour, Masvidal expressed satisfaction with the legal resolution but hinted at a future encounter with Covington.

And in episode no. 2068 of the JRE with guest, Cameron Hanes, Joe Rogan broke down the impact the incident may have on Colby Covington.  Rogan, while reading the article on the incident, dismissed the idea of it making an interesting movie, as was stated by Masvidal in the report.

Archery expert Hanes, discussing the situation, suggested that the reported brain injury might be a concussion. Rogan agreed while stating, “Yeah, probably got a concussion, I mean if he got sucker punched, most likely he got a concussion.”

Notably, Covington took an extended break of almost two years before his upcoming fight against Leon Edwards, which Rogan sees as a wise decision stating, “The thing is you can only get so many of those in your life, and if you get a big one, right before you’re gonna fight Leon Edwards, it’s good that he took a lot of time off.”

Rogan’s comments underscore the dangers of brain trauma affecting fighters for a significant period of time. And Covington’s return against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 will be an intriguing affair as fans will be looking for any signs of his performance being impacted by the concussion.

Nevertheless, a UFC veteran in the welterweight division has come out in support of Covington and believes he possesses the style to dethrone Edwards!

Covington favored to win at UFC 296 by UFC welterweight veteran

UFC 296 is set to conclude 2023 with a championship clash between reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards and challenger Colby Covington. Despite criticism over Covington’s title shot after a 21-month hiatus from his last win, some believe his tactical prowess could secure victory.

Neil Magny, the #13-ranked welterweight, sees Covington as the strategic force capable of claiming the gold. In an interview with James Lynch, Magny highlighted Covington’s fearlessness in sticking to his fighting style, even if it results in a less thrilling match.

Magny emphasized, “He’s the guy to go out there and get the job done, regardless of what outside influences may do for him. I personally think, stylistically, that’s a fight that favors Colby Covington.”

Magny’s prediction leans toward Covington’s stylistic advantage, emphasizing his commitment to winning regardless of the fight’s excitement level. If successful, Covington’s win could signal a shift toward valuing strategy over entertainment inside the Octagon!
