After Trouble With ‘Wrong People,’ Conor McGregor Revealed How Coach Kavanagh Saved Him From “The Point of No Return”

Conor McGregor is an inspiration for many. The Dubliner has had an amazing career in the UFC. He is the first person to have ever become a two-division champion in the UFC. McGregor is also a sharp businessman. He is also going to feature in a Hollywood remake of the 1980s classic Roadhouse. The success, however, didn’t come easy. It took a lot of training, discipline, courage, and, of course, good guidance. McGregor has praised his coach for intervening in his life when he was on his way to trouble.

John Kavanagh has shared his journey with Conor McGregor in his book, ‘Win or Learn: MMA, Conor McGregor and Me: A trainer’s Journey’.

While the penguin Publication has great reviews on GoodReads and Amazon, it’s the book’s foreword written by McGregor himself that tells us a lot about how highly the Irish brat places his coach.

Conor McGregor respects Kavanagh for saving him

In his foreword, McGregor mentioned the time when he was not taking the right decisions and Kavanagh went beyond his role as a coach and intervened. ‘McG’ wrote, “There was a time in my life when I was hanging out with the wrong people, getting up to no good, drifting away from the gym and down a dangerous path.”

While a lot of youngsters may relate to the situation, very few are fortunate to have people like Kavanagh around. McGregor further wrote, “There was no onus on John to intervene, but he went out of his way to ensure that I didn’t go beyond the point of no return.”

In his book, John Kavanagh recites the story of how a skinny kid who was bullied and beaten became a martial arts coach. Kavanagh talks about his teenage days in Ireland. He described the incident that changed his life when he was beaten up by some unruly boys in front of his girlfriend because he tried to save another person who was being assaulted and harassed.

McGregor is a proud man and fans don’t hear him talking highly about too many people. If he does say something about someone, it’s because he has the utmost respect for that person. ‘Mystic Mac’ has reached the elite class of fighters and his coach has had his part to play. McGregor acknowledges it and so do fans.
