Stipe Miocic wanted a grand fight, but Jon Jones was not the opponent he had in mind. ‘The Silencer’ recently sat down for an interview with the New York Post discussing about his upcoming UFC 295 bout. He revealed a lot of things about his mindset going into the fight. But most importantly, he dropped some gems on how he wanted a thrilling finale against another heavyweight.

Miocic was most definitely seeking his redemption from the reigning heavyweight champion who knocked him out cold with the sledgehammer of a hand. But in the world of combat sports, legends come and go. And, sadly for Stipe Miocic, it seems like his desired contender has moved on to “better things.”

Stipe Miocic went head to head with ‘The Predator‘ on two separate occasions. The first time around, Miocic defeated the French-Cameroonian and won via unanimous decision. This was back in 2018. The next time they met was in 2021 when Ngannou had improved by leaps and bounds, the knockout in the second round was quick and cold. Naturally, Miocic wanted a third bout.

“I really wanted to have a rematch with Francis,” Miocic told the New York Post. “Unfortunately, he left for bigger and better things, so good for him. After that, all I wanted was Jon Jones.”

Francis Ngannou left the UFC in a recent and quite public move. The fighter wanted to be a boxer from the get-go and now, he’s up for his first boxing match. And the opponent? None other than Tyson Fury, a champion with a near-spotless record. Win or lose, Ngannou got the best deal he could with the PFL and Miocic was as supportive as he could be.

“It definitely sucks, I definitely wanted that trilogy,” continued Miocic. “but unfortunately, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Listen, he’s onto bigger and better things. On paper, Tyson Fury is one of the best boxers of all time, but Francis hits really hard. It’s a fight, anything can happen. I wish him all the best. I hope he shocks the world.”

Even though he wanted the rematch more than anything, Miocic seems like the supportive co-worker everyone wants! Now, he finds his opponent in one of the greatest of all times, Jon Jones. ‘Bones’ has quite recently teased UFC 295 bout to be his retirement fight against Miocic who he called “the greatest heavyweight of all time.”

For Miocic, this could be another feather in his crown. A match-up between two giants has already brought a lot of eyes to the venue. The title match could be Jones’ last and he’s going to make it count like one would expect. On the other end of the spectrum, even Ngannou has expressed his wish to meet ‘Bones’ in a fight even with no title on the line.

Right now, Miocic is all set and scheduled to headline the second last pay-per-view of the year. The fighter hasn’t gone up in arms against anyone in two whole years. Will he come back just as confident as he was in his early days? Possibly be a fight of a lifetime for the fans!
