Heath Herring and his infamous confrontation with Yoshihiro Nakao have entered the golden pages of MMA history. However, no one would have ever imagined the incident to repeat itself during a WBO woman’s face-off. 

Recently, MMA Mania shared a tweet where Ewa Brodnicka was seen kissing her opponent and soon regretting it during a face-off. Undoubtedly, fans took to the comments to express themselves.

Fans React as a Twitter post recalls the ‘Kiss of Death’

The WBO face-off between Ewa Brodnicka and Edith Matthysse went haywards when Brodnicka planted a kiss on Matthysse’s lips. Brodnicka quickly regretted the move as her cheek met with her opponent’s right hand. However, the promoter was quick to disengage the two fighters. 

MMA Mania recently shared the incident on Twitter. However, the intention was to recall a previous incident with Heath Herring. They wrote, “Heath Herring is somewhere either smiling or scowling.”

Heath Herring knocked his opponent after receiving a kiss out 

In 2005, Herring was pitted against Yoshihiro Nakao in a mixed martial arts event, at the K-1 Premium Dynamite. However, things got into a frenzy even before the fight commenced. The duo came to the center of the ring and in front of a packed house, Nakao planted a kiss on Herring’s lips. 

After the kiss, Herring landed a right hook that knocked Nakao out cold. The kiss has therefore earned the name ‘Kiss of Death’. And then it led to an all-out brawl between the fighter’s cornermen. Following this, Herring was disqualified. However, it was declared that both fighters were at fault and the two earned a no-contest.

Later on, Herring told MMAWeekly, “I don’t get into stare downs, obviously he does, whatever…” Furthermore, the fighter added, “He started to get into me and I thought whatever. Then he plants a kiss on my lips? That really pissed me off. So it was just a gut reaction. If you watch the tape, I didn’t step back and hit him with a full swing, it was just a short get off me you freak, reaction.” Without a doubt, the fighter was frustrated and dejected after the incident.

Soon after that, Herring joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship. However, he hasn’t entered the arena since 2008, following an injury. Nonetheless, Herring was probably the only one who took down the undefeated Nakao that easily.
