Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has tested positive for Covid-19. ‘Cupcake’ will not appear for the main event at UFC Fight Night in Vegas.
Miesha Tate was slated to go up against Ketlen Vieira at UFC Fight Night 195 on 16th October. However, the bantamweight bout has been postponed as ‘Cupcake’ has now contracted Covid, Tate’s manager, Josh Jones told ESPN on Wednesday. As per reports, the fight might take place in November. However, the promotion is yet to announce a new date for Tate vs Vieira.

The American female fighter made her return to the UFC octagon after five years in July this year. She secured a stunning victory over Marion Reneau in the third round of the fight via knockout.
‘Cupcake’ showed absolute dominance and handed Reneau a loss in her last appearance inside the octagon. Having earned a decisive victory in her return, she is currently #8 in the bantamweight division of UFC.
The fight against Vieira would have been Tate’s second bout after her return. However, her fans will have no option but to wait for the former champion to recover completely before getting back inside the cage.

Miesha Tate: A glimpse of her UFC career
The former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate was on a two-fight win streak when she made her debut in Strikeforce, back in 2008 with a stunning win. She lost her second fight in the promotion, however, ‘Cupcake’ quickly bounced back into the win column and won four fights in a row.
‘Cupcake’ blazed through the bantamweight division with her stunning performances inside the octagon. However, she soon hit rock bottom in 2011. Tate went 1-3 from 2012 to 2013.

Following her defeat in her first-ever title shot against Ronda Rousey, Tate became unstoppable. She won her next four fights with absolute dominance inside the cage. She was on a four-fight win streak when she earned her second bantamweight title bout.
‘Cupcake’ defeated Holly Holm in the fifth round of the fight at UFC 196 to become the bantamweight champion. This was Tate’s first UFC championship. However, she lost it to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200. Tate was on a two-fight skid when she chose to retire from professional fighting in 2016.
Now, the ‘Cupcake’ is back in the UFC and has already secured a strong position in the bantamweight roster with a stunning victory. It will surely excite her fans to see what she brings to the table next.
