Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman went to war against each other in the main event of UFC 268. The welterweight gold was on the line, and both the combatants refused to give up.
However, after a five-round gruesome war, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ came out victorious and successfully defended his UFC gold strap. During the second round of the bout, Covington suffered a leg injury while landing a low kick, which he confirmed in the post-fight press conference. However, ‘Chaos’ took the fight to the end with the swollen right leg.
Recently, Covington appeared in an interview with Submission Radio. During the interview, the Californian gave an update on the aforementioned injury. He said, “The doctor was saying that there’s probably like a little hairline fracture in the top.”

“He said it’s like a three or four-week recovery. It’s been two weeks. So I am barely limping on it still. It’s pretty much good now, you know. So I mean, another week or two for sure it’s good. But it wasn’t a bit of a serious problem, it just kind of swelled up in the fight.”

“You know, I threw a low kick, and it landed on his knee like in the second round. And I felt it swell up right away, I was like Oh okay can’t throw the right kick anymore got to go to the left kick, and just use other tools. So that kind of limited my skill set. You know, I was compromised in that fight and that’s what I still was able to do: win three rounds to two.”
This was his second defeat at the hands of the Nigerian champion. Previously, the two men crossed paths at UFC 245.
Colby Covington: Quest for the Welterweight Gold
‘Chaos’ became the interim welterweight champion of UFC by defeating Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225. He unified the interim belt to face Kamaru Usman at UFC 245. However, the latter knocked out Covington in the fifth round of the bout.
Interestingly, ‘Chaos’ quickly bounced back into the win column by defeating Tyron Woodley and earned his shot at the title again. Unfortunately, the California native faced the same fate in the rematch at UFC 268.
