As Charles Oliveira says, The Champion has a name and now the ‘champion’ has a set date to regain his crown. However, it wouldn’t be easy as Oliveira will face grappling dominant lightweight athlete Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi on October 22. This will be for the vacant lightweight title.

After a lot of speculation on whom and when the bout for the vacant lightweight title will take place, it’s finally official. The confirmation came during the UFC’s return to ABC broadcast. Afterward, the UFC social team put it out as well.

Oliveira wanted to face Conor McGregor, however, the UFC went with the Dagestan-born.

Makhachev is on a 10-fight win streak. And has finished four straight bouts in a 12-month span. That said, he is yet to earn a win over a top-3 lightweight athlete in the UFC. And now he could do the same by being the biggest hurdle of Do Bronx‘s career.

Olveira is on an 11-fight win streak of his own, the second longest at the 155 lbs division behind Khabib Nurmagomedov & Tony Ferguson (12). However, Oliveira has finished 10 of these fights which are most for lightweights.

And not only in lightweight overall in the UFC, but the Brazilian standout also has multiple bonuses, submission and finishes records to his name that almost guarantees him a Hall of Fame place

They often threw around the term uncrowned champion. However, for the Brazilian star, there’s no other word that suits his situation the best.

The former lightweight champion lost his belt after a mishap on the scales in his last bout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. However, he showed his overall MMA class when he finished Highlight after a remarkable performance.

Olveira was honored with the ESPY award for being the best fighter of the year 2022 on the ABC broadcast. He beat Kamaru Usman, Alexander Volkanovski, and Kayla Harrison.
