MMA fans were treated to a thrilling bantamweight showdown between Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Vera at UFC on ESPN 43 at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The main event bout delivered on its promise of non-stop action, with both fighters giving it their all, inside the Octagon.

However, despite the intensity and competitiveness of the five-round battle, the results from the judges’ end proved to be a major upset for the fans. Although ‘The Sandman’ was in control and dominant for the majority of the fight, consistently outworking ‘Chito’ Vera, the 30-year-old Colorado native walked away with a split decision win. This was surprising given that one of the judges, Joel Ojeda, who was judging the UFC card for the first time, scored the bout in Vera’s favor with a score of 48-47, while the other two judges scored it 46-49 and 45-50 in Sandhagen’s favor.
