Former UFC bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt is set to make a move to the flyweight division of the UFC. ‘No Love’ is expected to take on Kai Kara-France upon his debut at the 125 lbs division of the UFC. Garbrandt last lost a decision against Rob Font.
Once an undefeated champion, Garbrandt suffered his first career loss against TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 via knockout. A rematch at UFC 227 saw the same outcome. Garbrandt once again got finished by Pedro Munhoz at UFC 235. He returned to the Octagon after a lengthy lay-off at UFC 250 and earned a buzzer-beating knockout win.

“Cody Garbrandt is headed to a new weight class. UFC finalizing Garbrandt’s flyweight debut against Kai Kara-France for an event on Dec. 11, per sources. How do you think Garbrandt will do at this new weight?” wrote ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
Kara-France last fought at UFC 259 and earned a spectacular knockout win against Rogerio Bontorin. He has won 3 out of his last 5 fights. While ‘Don’t Blink’ will have a massive opportunity against a household name in Garbrandt in his next fight, ‘No Love’ will look to put the division on notice with a successful arrival.

How will Cody Garbrandt fare at the UFC flyweight division?
Garbrandt’s skills are beyond question as he is one of the most gifted and entertaining fighters in the entire UFC roster. One can expect him to be even faster at a lighter-weight class. However, as his chin has been questionable lately, the further taxation of cutting more weight can take its toll. But given that flyweights carry less power than bantamweights, that factor might not be much of a problem.
If he can use his strength and size to his advantage at a lower weight class, ‘No Love‘ certainly can become a championship contender yet again. As Kara-France is no pushover, Garbrandt’s debut fight at 125 will be a good indication of what the future holds for the former bantamweight kingpin.
