The world of MMA has uplifted many non-fighters and gained them a huge following. Starting from the UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan to analyst Laura Sanko, there are a lot of examples of non-fighters who boast massive fame. Joe Rogan, despite being a non-fighter, has amassed such fame in the world of MMA that it propelled his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, to bag the apex spot in Spotify’s list of ‘Top Podcasts’.

Recently, the noted MMA referee Marc Goddard also garnered numerous reactions from the MMA community. Goddard recently achieved the notable feat of getting promoted as a 2nd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A post highlighting this news was shared on Reddit, where fans gave out a volley of their opinions.

The majority of fans lauded the achievement by Marc Goddard calling him legit

The Reddit post appreciating Goddard‘s feat read, “UFC ref Marc Goddard promoted to 2nd degree BJJ black belt”. It also contained the link to an article that talked about this superb feat of Goddard.

The fans also appreciated this feat by the noted UFC referee with their admiring comments. One of the fans wrote, “A lot of people don’t know Goddard was a pro fighter and fought James Thompson twice”. The lauding tone of this fan was quite apparent.

One more fan appreciated Goddard‘s martial arts and fighting background, stating, “A few refs have been in cage fights themselves”. He obviously had respect for Goddard for being one of them.

Two more fans were appreciative of Goddard‘s decisional skills inside the UFC octagon. One of them wrote, “Marc is the best ref that the UFC uses”.

While the other one lauded Goddard, writing, “Goddard is probably the best MMA ref, always professional and rarely makes a bad call.”

Despite most of the fans appreciating Goddard‘s background and refereeing, some fans were also there who chose to deride his achievement.

One such fan wrote, “Blek belt? Who give him bratha, we hev to check dis”. It was a mindless application of the words said by the UFC Lightweight Champion, Islam Makhachev.

Further, after gaining knowledge about Goddard‘s legit fight skills, this fan wrote, “Connor’s lucky”.

A lot of fans would actually agree that having legit fight skills is very much required for the referees. There have been multiple instances where referees had to stop fighters forcefully after they didn’t agree to stop hitting their opponent. Having someone like Goddard inside the Octagon can be really helpful in such cases.
